Dog ownership is growing, while shoppers look for value.
APPA found that dog ownership increased from 51% of U.S. households in 2024 to 53% in 2025. At the same time, more pet owners said they were reducing pet spending. Together, those shifts point to a large, durable pet audience that still expects purchases to earn their place in the routine.
